Our “Thanks for the Memories” campaign is our ambitious plan to push the boundaries of dementia care. All the funds raised will go towards the creation of a reminiscence village.
Any one of us could be or are being touched by dementia in our lives. At Hoylake Cottage Dementia Day Service we started with a vision to be a lifeline for people living with dementia, their families and carers, a place where people could feel safe and an offer of a little respite for carers. More importantly we want to be a part of the circle of support for people living with dementia stay at home with their loved ones, doing their familiar routines in a familiar place with familiar people for as long as they can, slowing down that moment when they need to go into long term care.
The purpose of the reminiscence village is to offer reminiscence therapies to help people living with dementia connect and remember times gone by.
With our recent National Lottery and Santander grant, we are about to start our exciting journey, as we move to phase one. Working with a Manchester based film set designer company and seeking expert advice from older people and dementia professionals, we will be transforming our foyer area into a 1960,s street complete with a corner shop front and terraced house fronts.
The monies we raise from the forthcoming Caldy Open Gardens event, and the recent Castle Singers concert, will help us to move to our next phase of developing the village with a bank, tea shop and a 1970s themed social club function room
For the local community we will offer volunteering opportunities, employment opportunities, and a safe place for people to pop in for a brew, a chat, and advice if they are experiencing dementia for the first time.
We are very grateful for peoples kindness in helping us raise funds to make a difference to the lives of people living with dementia.
